Joint Center for Energy Storage Research

A new battery in a transmission electron microscope allows imaging of lithium deposited on the anode.

The Joint Center for Energy Storage Research, or JCESR, is a partnership that brings together researchers, engineers, and manufacturers with a shared mission of developing clean energy storage technologies for both vehicles and the grid.

PNNL is one of five national laboratory partners. Our work in support of JCESR includes:

  • Improving the long-term performance of battery components made of lithium and other metals
  • Experimenting with new materials for electrolytes
  • Developing advanced computing, mass spectrometry, imaging technologies, and methods for catalysis and electrochemistry.
